How to Really Beautify Your Yard With Fantastic Landscaping

Whether working with a contractor or getting your hands dirty yourself, putting together a beautiful yard is supremely satisfying, and pays dividends in both enjoyment and home value. However, it is a lot of work and, depending on the final vision, can also be expensive. There are a few things to consider before getting started that will make the process of updating your landscaping as stress free as possible.

How to Really Beautify Your Yard With Fantastic Landscaping

Make a Paper Garden First

Before buying hundreds or thousands in plants, dirt, mulch and equipment, plan out the garden on paper first. It can be as simple as sketching the yard on note paper with colored pencils, though there are also numerous apps and programs that help to digitally create a sketch as well. This will help you visualize the final product and make any changes before any money is spent.

Buy Native Plants

There is nothing more frustrating that planting a garden that refuses to thrive or outright dies. Buying plants native to your region will result in healthier, happier plants that require less work. They can also be a beautiful reflection of the region you live in.

Trees

Trees are a gorgeous addition to any yard. They provide shade and visual interest, and can also be used to create a sound barrier or add a level of privacy to a yard. Some companies, like Arbor Valley Nursery, know that having privacy in your yard is important. There are endless varieties, from lush fruit trees to more manicured ornamentals. A bench can be placed underneath a mature tree, or a hammock tied to the trunk. There’s even the option of a tree house, with a big enough tree and a little elbow grease. While they have to be planned out carefully to account for future growth and root spread, they are a lovely addition to any yard.

Vary Color and Height

Another important thing to keep in mind while planning your yard is that having plants that vary in height, color, and blooming season will make the plants pop and will keep the yard looking amazing year-round. If every plant is ankle height and blooms red in July, the garden risks looking one dimensional. But having a variety of plants that are of different heights, textures, and blooming times will ensure landscaping that impresses in every season.

Whether you’re going for a clean and streamlined aesthetic or a wild explosion of color, a little planning goes a long way in landscaping. With plants constantly growing and changing, the joy is in the journey. However, finding the right combination of trees, flowers, grass, and gravel will pay off with years of enjoyment and satisfaction in the end.
