Harvest Time! How To Prep Your Garden’s Bounty

Gardens can offer your yard many benefits, from something beautiful to look at, cleaner air around your home, and the possibility of drawing in birds and butterflies. However, if you garden for food, then you will eventually have a harvest to deal with. Knowing how to prep your garden’s bounty means you make the most of this time.

Harvest Time_ How To Prep Your Garden’s Bounty

Know Your Harvest Times

Know the harvest signs for each plant you have in your garden, and also know when their likely harvest times are in your hardiness zone. Knowing when to harvest them is crucial to getting them inside at just the right moment for maximum taste, health, and freshness.

Decide How to Use Each Harvest

You might be chomping at the bit to enjoy some of your harvest while it’s fresh. However, you might want to consider canning and freezing a lot of it if there’s too much to eat before it goes bad.

Clean Your Fruits and Veggies

You probably did all you could to keep your garden as pure and healthy as possible, but your harvest still grew in the dirt and possibly spent a lot of time outside. Get a 32 oz RTU spray 6 pack so you have something to clean off your food. Make sure that the cleaner you use is food safe and effective. Keeping it clean on the outside from the moment you harvest makes it last longer and helps everyone who enjoys your harvest stay healthier.

Plan Out Your Next Harvest

Depending on the plants you are harvesting and your local growing season, you might have time to squeeze in another harvest or just grow some late-season plants. Talk to fellow gardeners in your area to see if they know any plants or crops that can add a second harvest or more to your gardening schedule.

Restoring Your Garden

Whether you aim for another harvest or just decide to rest your garden for next year, do what you can to preserve the soil and restore its vitality. Some non-edible plants can be great ground cover in between harvest and the next seeding.

Planting a garden is a great thing to do with any free space you have outside. The beauty of it can be rewarding while you’re waiting on delicious fruits and veggies you and your family enjoy long after the harvest. Take your gardening game to the next level with these harvest tips.
